Tinakilly House is the former home of Captain Robert Halpin, the renowned Wicklow mariner. As Captain of the famous "Great Eastern", Haplin played a major part in revolutionising world communications by laying over 2000 miles of transatlantic telegraphic cables in 1865. So fond of his great ship was Halpin that he modelled much of the interior of his home in Wicklow, now Tinakilly House, on it - part of the cable and much family memorabilia remains on display.
