Objectives
In 2006, following a request from the Industrial Heritage Association of Ireland (IHAI) for advice regarding the existence of international charters, standards, principles or guidelines covering the protection of the industrial heritage, ICOMOS Ireland decided to established a national sub-committee on IH. A scoping study was undertaken by the sub-committee which defined their objectives:
- To promote the establishment of an international charter on industrial heritage.
- To promote education and training in the field of industrial heritage.
- To promote the development of planning guidelines for industrial heritage sites.
- To encourage interdisciplinary links.
- To encourage links with the national representative body for industrial heritage (IHAI).
- To promote contact with the International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage (TICCIH).
Aims
- Support ICOMOS International in the presentation of a proposal on industrial heritage guidelines to the 16th General Assembly and Scientific Symposium in Canada 2008.
- Raise awareness and promote knowledge of industrial heritage among members of ICOMOS Ireland.
- Engage with national bodies in development of planning guidelines for industrial heritage sites.
